2022 CCF Victoria President’s Lunch

Jacqui Felgate is one of Australia’s best-known personalities with close to 20 years’ experience across print, radio, and broadcast media. A multi award winning journalist, Jacqui was the first woman to host the Brownlow Medal count during a media career that spans two decades. The 39-year-old began her career at Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper, before moving to Nine News and Seven News as the Afternoon News presenter. As a newsreader and political reporter, she covered some of Australia’s biggest news events including the Covid Pandemic, Black Saturday bushfires and federal and state elections, before transitioning into sport. She has hosted major sporting events including AFL match day coverage, Grand Final coverage, Wimbledon and the Beijing Olympic Games. She is a highly sought-after MC, working for some of Australia’s biggest companies and organisations including NAB Australian Football League L’Oréal Australia Post BMW Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Racing Victoria – Off the Track Victoria Racing Club, Melbourne Racing Club, UN women City of Melbourne, Melbourne Fashion Week, St Kilda Mums, Melbourne Press Club. A mum of two daughters, Jacqui is married to sports broadcaster Michael Felgate. She enjoys spending time with her family, marathon running and riding her retired racehorse Red.

Special guests for the afternoon will be coach of the 2022 AFL Premiers from Geelong FC, Chris Scott along with Captain Joel Selwood.

Widely celebrated for his professionalism, leadership and football brain, Joel has steadily built one of the most impressive resumes in VFL/AFL history and is recognised as a key element in creating a remarkable culture of success at the Geelong Football Club. The individual and team accolades have continued to come throughout his career, and Selwood is regarded as one of the game’s most respected and courageous players and leaders of all time. A member of the elite 300-game club, he is a six-time All-Australian, three-time Club Best & Fairest and a four-time AFLPA Most Courageous Player. Highly sought after in the corporate and charity worlds, he has held many of his ambassadorial roles for up to 15 years, further testament to the value he places on long-term relationships and the value he provides to organisations. Selwood is currently an ambassador for NAB, Asics, Ford & One Touch and has worked with the Cotton On Foundation for many years to empower youth through quality education. In addition, his role as the NAB Auskick Ambassador has seen him mentor, guide, support and influence both male & female Auskickers over the last 14 years around Australia by assisting them to believe in themselves to reach their full potential. Joel and his brothers have also released a series of kids books, ‘The Selwood boys,’ which encourage young kids to read, whilst providing them with some entertainment along the way. An influential role model, Joel will continue to lead and engage within the greater Australian community whilst also doing volunteer and ambassador work for various organisations and brands.

A dual Premiership player in a successful 215 game playing career with the Brisbane Lions, Scott tasted the ultimate success as a Coach when he led Geelong through a remarkable 2011 season, culminating in their 38-point win over Collingwood in the Grand Final. During Brisbane’s most dominant era in which the Lions won three straight Premierships, Scott was part of the most powerful backline in the AFL alongside Justin Leppitsch, Mal Michael and Chris Johnson. Making a key contribution to the 2001 and 2002 Premierships, Scott was unable to play in the 2003 Grand Final due to a hip injury. Retiring at the end of the 2007 season, Scott joined the Fremantle Dockers in 2008 as an Assistant Coach and quickly proved he was fit for a senior coaching position after contributing strongly and assisting in leading the club to its first finals campaign since 2006. Scott’s Cats started 2011 with a bang, not dropping their first game until Round 15. They would win 19 games in the home and away season, with the average losing margin in their three losses a mere eight points. Sealing a win in the Grand Final against Collingwood, Scott etched his name in the history books as one of the few first year coaches to win a Premiership. In the following years, Scott continued to lead a competitive Geelong outfit to several finals series. Geelong did not return to the Grand Final until 2020, a loss which will motivate Scott’s side over pre-season to once again return to finals football.

AFLW player from the Western Bulldogs, Deanna Berry will also be there to share her stories of her inspirational journey as they realised their dream of playing AFL at the elite level in a competition that is growing and thriving every year.

PLUS… Sam Moorfoot Geelong Cats Icon

Sam Moorfoot is a Geelong Cats Super Fan and water boy to the club for the last 7 years. The 29-year-old who has Downs syndrome has become an Icon of the Geelong Football Club who is volunteering at the club with training each week. Sam has also taken part in the FightMND Big Freeze event down in Geelong and was able to raise $3029.50 for funding vital research to help find a cure for MND. Not only a fan of the club, but also a player of the game, Sam plays for the Geelong Dragons which is a club which is inclusive of players with disabilities which plays under the Victorian FIDA Football League (VFFL) and was able to play in the Grand Finals last year.

This special panel of champions will be there to discuss the journey of their club which has been one of growth, perseverance and determination. They will also be there to answer your questions and share a few behind the scenes stories on their road to success.
